The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is the EU authority that enforces chemical-safety legislation such as REACH, CLP, and the Biocidal Products Regulation. Headquartered in Helsinki since 2007, it evaluates registration dossiers, issues compliance decisions, and coordinates enforcement among Member States.
Companies manufacturing, importing, or using chemicals above one tonne per year must register substances through ECHA’s systems. The principle is “no data, no market”: without an accepted dossier, products cannot legally enter the EU. ECHA also maintains databases for Poison Centre Notifications and Substances of Concern in articles, making digital accuracy and timeliness essential.
Penalties for non-compliance range from product recalls to multimillion-euro fines and prison terms, so automated, error-free submissions are critical.
Stop wrestling with complex XML files – let Gepard handle ECHA for you.
